E-waste recycling event a success

A 20-foot shipping container and a truck were filled with old, worn out electronics collected during the latest e-Waste Recycling Day, which has been hailed a success by the Waste Management Department.

Items accepted last Saturday included anything smaller than a major appliance that requires a power cord or batteries in order to work, such as hairdryers, toasters, phones, microwaves, children’s toys, flashlights, computers and stereo equipment.

Over the course of last year 15 shipping containers of e-Waste were collected and sent to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved recycling facilities for processing.

The spokeswoman said: “e-Waste Recycling Day events allow members of the public to do their part for the environment by participating in Bermuda’s recycling initiatives.
