Butler stuns Thomas in singles final

Crowned champion: after a weekend of upsets, Butler pulled off one of the biggest
Sam Butler defeated David Thomas in the men’s final of the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association Open Singles Challenge at Coral Beach and Tennis Club on Saturday.
Unseeded Butler defeated No 3 seed Thomas 6-3, 6-2, the identical scoreline he had lost to his opponent in group B of the round-robin matches.
Butler, who helped Flanagan’s Onions win promotion to the Premier Division this season, was made to work against Neal Towlson, the Coral Beach professional, in the semi-finals, edging to a 7-5. 2-6, 7-5 victory the previous day.
In the women’s final, also at the weekend, No 2 seed Ashley Brooks beat No 1 seed Kaylah Ming 6-0, 6-1. Ming defeated Kaila Harvey 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-finals while Brooks defeated Shelby Madeiros 6-0, 6-1.
