'Very beautiful, colourful and vibrant' – Annual Exhibition starts
Although crowds were not huge, the Annual Exhibition still proves to be one of the spring favourites among locals.
The first day of the Ag show is usually not a sell out, however feathered and furry pets, Bermuda cedar art work, local flora and food exhibits always draw crowds to the event at the Botanical Gardens.
This year though, the French Connection Trampoline Show seemed to be the highlight of yesterday's crowd.
Three school friends from Mount Saint Agnes Academy (MSA) who were given the day off to enjoy the festivities described the trampoline act as 'wicked' saying it was their favourite so far. "I liked when they were jumping up against the boards," explained Aaron Trimm, aged 12. "I really enjoyed the trampoline act this year."
His friend Jack Ricciardi, also 12-years-old, said: "I enjoyed the bird exhibits they were pretty cool but the trampoline act is my favourite so far."
Nelson Vieira also in grade seven added: "The exhibition is better this year but the trampoline act was wicked."
A first prize wild boar was on display and first time attended David Rymal was tickled pink watching the huge pig sleep, but admitted he would have enjoyed it more if his wife was there.
"This is my first time here and I'm loving the exhibits. I wish my wife Aisha was here to enjoy it with me though."
Other than lazy swine and acrobatics, some spectators enjoyed seeing the flora that the Island has to offer.
Alandra Swan, of Somerset, said: "The Exhibition is very beautiful, colourful and vibrant. I am looking forward to see the Orchids, they are my favourite flower."
Some school students were given the day off while others were allowed to leave half-a-day to attend the Ag show.
S3 Berkeley Institute student Keivana Burgess said: "I enjoyed watching the goat milking exhibit, that is until they squirted me."
Her schoolmate Lori-elle Burch also in S3 said she did not enjoy the milking demonstration and preferred the rabbits.
"I thought it was interesting that they had pigeons on display, that was kind of weird but interesting."
The event kicked off with an opening ceremony with performances by United Dance Production and soloist Marvin Ford.
The 71st Annual Exhibition will continue today and tomorrow at the Botanical Gardens.
