Goat tells Blast pro Alexander to 'stay in US'
Shaun Goater has advised Baltimore Blast professional Logan Alexander to sign for a United States-based outdoor team next season rather than join Bermuda Hogges.
Although Goater admits Alexander would be a major asset for Hogges, he has urged the defender to remain in the US and further his football education at a more established franchise.
Alexander moved to Blast last month after impressing during a trial and will look to join the majority of his new team-mates in getting fixed up with a club in the USL-D1, D2 or the newly reformed NASL by the end of the indoor campaign.
"The indoor season only lasts for five or six months and so most players join outdoor teams to supplement their earnings," said Hogges president, Goater.
"It would be better for Logan to remain in the US and get fixed up with a team like Harrisburg City Islanders who are heavily linked with Baltimore Blast. That would be ideal for him.
"If Logan wanted to return to Bermuda for the off-season then, of course, we would be interested. I really do hope he can get involved in the outdoor set-up early on in his career."
Goater coached Logan at North Village at the start of the season and described the 23-year-old Bermuda international as a model player
"I always say to players that if they're just happy playing for North Village then there's no point them being here," he said. "They should be aiming to be playing at a higher level.
"Logan did just that and caught the eye of Blast's coaches and won a professional contract in the indoor game.
"He's very disciplined and is a perfect player from a coach's point of view.
"I think he will be very successful as he is willing to put his opinions aside and do the job his coach asks of him."
Alexander was selected for Blast trials along with fellow Bermudians Coolridge Durham, Aquino Grant, Dennis Russell and Angelo Simmons by Blast's assistant coach David Bascome, who is also the Island Soccer League (ISL) commissioner.
