Conservation efforts in BBC documentary

Bermuda and its wildlife have garnered international attention as part of a BBC-produced video segment.

The segment was featured as part of the Britain’s Treasure Islands documentary series, which aired on BBC Four and is inspired by the book by naturalist Stewart McPherson.

The series has taken looks at several of the British Overseas Territories, showcasing their culture, biodiversity and history.

While the Bermuda segment describes the island as the most urbanised of the Overseas Territories, it notes Bermuda’s conservation efforts.

In the video, Mr McPherson visits Nonsuch Island with conservation officer Jeremy Madeiros and discusses the efforts to rebuild the cahow population.

It also highlights much of the island’s history, including the popular dunking stool recreations in St George’s.

Glenn Jones, of the Bermuda Tourism Authority, said that the segment was another example of good publicity for the island.

“It seems to be a great description of our country’s mystique, our compelling history, fascinating geography, colourful wildlife and natural beauty,” he said. “Any time that happens in an outlet as widely seen as the BBC, it’s good news for Bermuda.”
