Jamaican charged with importing cocaine

A Jamaican national was this morning charged with importing almost 900g of cocaine to the island.

Tyrone Brown, 30, was not required to enter a plea to the charge as it must be heard by the Supreme Court.

The offence is alleged to have occurred on Monday, and involved a total of 894.6g of the controlled drug.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court that quantity of cocaine could fetch between $95,700 and $209,625 if sold on the streets of Bermuda.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Mr Brown into custody until May 2, when the defendant is scheduled to appear before the Supreme Court for arraignment.
