Players shine at Mini Cup Match
For some the thrills and spills of Cup Match have already been played out, with the Blue and Blues claiming first honours.
The annual Mini Cup Match Exhibition sees youngsters as well as patients from the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute take to the field in a pre-holiday sporting spectacle for all ages.
This year children from Tianna Paiva’s summer camp together with a couple of patients took part in the event that saw the St George’s side win by 20 runs.
The exhibition game was organised by Rose Jackson and Juliette Basden from Mawi and Desmond Crockwell from YouthVision Promotions.
“This was our third annual YouthVision — Mawi collaboration,” said Mr Crockwell. “Every year we choose a different camp to participate in the event too; last year was OJ Pitcher’s cricket camp.
“Before arriving at Mawi each player agreed to respect, appreciate and encourage the patients. We emphasise the point of social responsibility and the children actually enjoyed putting on a show for the patients. We teach the children that everybody is somebody.
“This year was another excellent event and everyone had a great time.
“Mawi provided music, friendly crown and anchor and entertainment, YouthVision Promotions provided snowballs, and Troy Burgess, from Hot Dog Delight/Party Rentals, provided food.”
The exhibition match took place on Friday at Mawi and saw Christian King and Aaron Paynter pick up MVP awards.
