Castle Harbour wins first outing
Castle Harbour, the Bermudian-owned thoroughbred, shed its maiden tag after winning the 5.05 at Newmarket yesterday.
The horse, who was taken out of his first race at this month’s Doncaster’s Lincoln Meeting because of the testing ground, won the Alex Scott Maiden Stakes race for three-year-olds, having been sent off as a 10-3 second favourite. The Class 4 race was held over seven furlongs.
Castle Harbour, who was bought for 200,000 guineas by Bermuda Thoroughbred Racing in 2014, was ridden to victory by Frankie Dettori, a three-times champion jockey.
Dettori and Gosden, Castle Harbour’s trainer, dominated the opening day of the meet with a treble via Castle Harbour, Swiss Range and Nathra.
Castle Harbour, the son of Kyllachy whose father Pivotal has been a prolific sire of stallions, not did race last season after undergoing a minor operation in April last year.
The other horses owned by BTR are Johnny Barnes, Horseshoe Bay, Sir George Somers, Great Sound and Paradise Lakes.
