earlier this year, has received a $25,000 restoration pledge from the Bermuda Garden Club.

In two separate night-time attacks in January, a nearly 200-year-old front wall and fence at the Sandys Parish house was smashed.

Garden Club officers yesterday presented the first of five annual payments to Trust president Mrs. Patsy Phillips at an informal ceremony at Springfield.

The money is earmarked for the restoration of Springfield's front garden.

Funds for the project will be raised through the Club's House and Garden tours held each Wednesday from April 28 through May.

A portion of the profits from the tours are pledged to the Garden Club of Bermuda Awards and Scholarship Funds.

The awards are given annually and are open to any Bermudian of any age who wishes to further his or her education in horticulture, garden design or landscaping.
