Boutique moves to Hamilton
Starting from a roadside push cart in Dockyard, Micah and Nu Harris have seen their women?s apparel business expand and have now opened their new store Kolours in Hamilton.
Mrs. Harris, a native of Thailand, said she realised that Bermudians are drawn to fashion styles that separate individuals from the crowd but she never dreamed that the Asian influence would become so popular.
?There are not many stores in Hamilton selling Asian apparel and this store will give customers a new experience,? Mrs. Harris said.
?Bermudians don?t really mind high prices but they do care about quality, style and colour and value for money.?
Some of the clothes on the display at Kolours are handmade, and the material including colourful Chinese silk designs presents an exotic allure.
Mrs. Harris, who worked as a tour guide in Thailand and for Carnival Cruise Lines before coming to Bermuda, aims to capitalise on her degree in tourism and hotel management and fluency in several languages in order to put Kolours on the map in Hamilton.
Based at 75 Reid Street at the former Great Sound Rentals, the new location allows a full range of items including jackets, dresses, custom jewellery and shoes to be displayed more appealingly than at the Dockyard store, which is now closed.
Kolours operated from the Clocktower Mall for three years and as the business expanded store space became increasingly limited, so the Reid Street location, opposite Chopsticks Restaurant, allows more merchandise in a range of sizes to be offered.
?Whoever is eating at Chopsticks and likes the Asian style may look across the road and see the Chinese dresses on display at Kolours,? Mrs. Harris said.
