Close shave for basketball team
Warwick Academy is gearing up for St Baldrick’s Day tomorrow.
A few students got a head start ten days ago — members of the Warwick Academy basketball team wanted to shave their heads for the good cause during their season.
Their shaving team is called the Basketbalders. The idea was put forward by Year 13 student Keevon Minors, who has played on the team since Year 7.
The team agreed to support this very worthwhile charity and they all agreed to be a part of it. The basketballers are Miguel Perry, Y10; Rye Ahronson, Sean Tucker and Benjamin Barnett, Y11; and Stefan Wilson and Keevon Minors, Y13.
The event for primary and the remaining secondary students will be tomorrow at lunchtime in the main school hall.
This is the school’s second year participating in this worthwhile cause and this year there are double the number of participants. The school has already exceeded its donation goal.
Thank you to all who are taking part and a big thanks to all who donated. The St Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives.
Here in Bermuda funds can also go to support Bermuda Cancer and Heath Centre’s SunSmart programme.
