Reform a politically calculated ploy
Dear Sir,
Some years back when Sir John Swan was Premier, the Progressive Labour Party had some internal problems that resulted in the formation of the National Liberal Party.
Just about the time when this new party was gaining momentum, Sir John called a snap General Election, which, according to the late Austin Thomas, was to nip the NLP in the bud.
The NLP is dead and the PLP was weakened by that election, but rebounded to win the election of 1998.
Just as that snap election was a politically calculated ploy to kill the NLP and to weaken the PLP, this present Pathways to Status by Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy and the One Bermuda Alliance government is a politically calculated ploy to kill the PLP.
Bermuda would then become a one-party state like Russia and Cuba or in the Bermuda era before 1959.
My understanding of the last election is that four votes in St George’s gave the OBA the government.
I therefore call upon Mr Fahy to make public the following:
1, The number of applications for status that the immigration department has to hand
2, The number of foreign residents living on the island for 20 years or more
3, The number of foreign residents living on the island for 15 to 19 years
4, The number of foreign residents on the island for ten to 14 years
5, The number of foreign residents on the island for five to nine years
The minister can also give us a breakdown of the nationalities. The minister has said that he does not know, and neither does his government, how the foreigners would vote in an election if given status. Such a statement is rubbish ... utter nonsense.
Will the minister also tell us that he does not know how the white community in Bermuda vote in an election? The Pathways to Status can be likened to one spouse lacing the other spouse’s drink to get an inheritance.
