Police responded to reports of a “mêlée” involving a number of students, some armed with weapons, in Pembroke yesterday.

According to a police spokesman, officers received several calls from the public at about 4pm concerning a large group of school-age students fighting ouside of TCD.

“Some of the students that were involved in the mêlée appeared to be brandishing weapons such as bats and pipes, however, upon police arrival all of the students quickly scattered in the surrounding area,” the spokesman said.

“It is unclear whether or not anyone receive any injuries as a result of this incident and the area was patrolled with no further incidents taking place.”

The spokesman added that police had launched an investigation into the incident, and would be working with the relevant school and community recourced to bring the matter to a resolution.
