Drink-driver fined and taken off the roads
A Pembroke man has been fined and taken off the roads for driving while impaired by alcohol.
Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Ezra Ararat, 30, pleaded guilty to the offence that happened on Ord Road in Paget on January 14.
The court heard that police attended a single-vehicle crash at about 7.20pm: a car had crashed into a wall and the driver had left the scene.
Officers were given a description of the driver and located Ararat on a nearby property.
He fled when he saw them but admitted being the driver when the officers caught up with him.
As they were speaking to him, they noticed signs of intoxication and Ararat told them he’d had “a few WKDs”.
He apologised to the court and “anyone I could have harmed”.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed him a $1,200 fine and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
