Haitians have been given a helping hand thanks to the generosity of a local church.

Peace Lutheran Church in Paget has been raising money to support Feed My Lambs Ministry since 2012 and last year the congregation collected $2,853.

The church has pledged to again donate a quarter of its mission support envelopes to the organisation this year. “Feed My Lambs developed into one of our favourite mission projects,” Pastor Karsten Decker said. “The work is so important and their structure is very transparent.

“Within a few years Feed My Lambs built an impressive infrastructure including an orphanage for over 60 children, a k-12 school with 700 students, a water treatment facility, a medical service and pharmacy, and is working on a dental clinic and farming project.

“We are a small church with less than 50 active adult members so we are limited in our resources, but we are happy to be able to contribute to this great work.” Feed My Lambs Ministry has been helping orphans and the community in Montrouis, Haiti, since 2008. The charity operates an orphanage, a school and a medical clinic.

It has been supported by Peace Lutheran Church since one of their members, John Thorne, went along on one of their volunteer trips and told the church about their work.

Mr Rego and his team also gave a presentation to their members and the church has raised more than $10,000 for the charity since.

“They’ve been a tremendous blessing,” said Phillip Rego, the founder of Feed My Lambs Ministry. He added that the money will be split between assisting the community, the orphanage, the clinic and the school.

Peace Lutheran Church also supported the ELCA World Hunger campaign, Family Centre and Age Concern with mission envelopes last year, while Christmas donations went to Meals on Wheels and the Coalition for the Protection of Children.
