The author of the Art of Learning programme Lance King has been invited to speak and run workshops at Warwick Academy for students, parents and all educators on the Island.

The New Zealander has delivered his programme to more than 180,000 students in at least 20 countries and this will be the ninth time he has visited the school.

Jill Finnigan, the director of staff and students’ development, explained the programmes he will offer this year.

The students’ programme will focus on effective exam preparation, something they have found invaluable over the years, and self-motivation.

Last year he spent considerable time with the Year 6 students as they prepared to enter into the Secondary School, and Year 11 as they prepared for their IGCSE exams.

Jessie Daba, who is now in Year 7, was very excited when remembering Mr King’s visit last year.

“He gave us some really interesting and helpful techniques for studying,” she said.

“We had to do testing at the end of Year 6 to get ready for the Secondary School and it was really helpful.”

The other group that benefited extensively from the workshops were Year 11.

Brian Wedlich said: “The ideas and techniques that Mr King shared with us was very beneficial as I was heading into the exams. I learnt how to be better prepared and had much more self-confidence going into the exams.”

The parents’ session will focus on Learning Skills Approach to Academic and Personal Success and the educators session will focus on Developing Self-Motivation — for yourself and your students.

This will include practical exercises to explore goal-setting, attributions, self-talk, beliefs, mindsets and resilience.

Teachers and educators across the Island are being invited to this free workshop on Saturday, January 23 from 9am-1pm at Warwick Academy.
