The Bermuda School Sports Federation high school boys’ Knockout final between CedarBridge Academy and Berkeley Institute will be shown on Digicel SportsMax tonight at 7.30pm.

The match, played on December 17, was an exciting contest with CedarBridge coming from behind to win 2-1.

Larry Mussenden, the president of the Bermuda Football Association, who assisted the BSSF in making the screening of the match possible, is urging fans to tune in to the coverage.

“The BSSF and the BFA invite everyone to tune into Digicel SportsMax 1 to watch an exciting game between CedarBridge Academy and the Berkeley Institute,” Mussenden said.

“We are all excited to demonstrate to the Digicel SportsMax audience that school football in Bermuda is of a high quality and that we love the game.”

Manny Faria, of the BSSF, said: “The BSSF finals were a culmination of an exciting season of school football and the dramatic climax to a week of exciting finals football.

“We are extremely excited about this opportunity as in our discussions with Digicel SportsMax, we are all keen to showcase lots of other sports that are played in schools in Bermuda.”

Mark Wade and Maurice Lowe, BFA officials, said in a joint statement: “The BFA is really excited about this venture with Digicel SportsMax as it gives our players in Bermuda the opportunity to showcase school/youth football to the wider Caribbean region.

“We have seen school football finals on SportsMax for some time now and so we are pleased to know that Bermuda will be added to the schedule.

This first project will also be a huge opportunity for the BFA to negotiate for more local football matches to be shown on Digicel SportsMax.

“As the BFA has stated previously, we aim to be the best in the Caribbean and to be highly competitive with the other Concacaf countries,” Mussenden said.

“We are also pleased for our referees to have a chance to be seen on Digicel SportsMax in the wider region as we work to get referees from Bermuda appointed to the Fifa list.

“We encourage more young people, male and female, to take referee courses with the BFA and to become referees.

“Finally, the Digicel SportsMax opportunity will be a great avenue for our players and coaches to showcase their talents.”

Max Tshunungwa, the Digicel SportsMax head of production, said: “As the leading sports broadcaster in the Caribbean, we are very proud to be associated with the BFA and the BSSF in airing the senior schools finals and we see this as the beginning of a very long and fruitful relationship with sports in Bermuda.”
