Bermuda College presents annual science week
Bermuda College will be launching its annual salute to the sciences next week.
A public forum will kick-start a series of events, including a technology showcase, nursing career fair and cooking demonstration.
“The recurrent theme of using the head and the hands in exploration of natural, technological and applied science will be reflected in varied and intriguing displays by the college’s two academic divisions,” a spokeswoman for the college said.
The Division of Arts and Corange Science will feature the black grouper in a public forum on Monday.
Tammy Trott, the senior fisheries and marine resource officer at the Department of Environmental Protection, will present research on the species in Bermuda.
“Black grouper is an historically important fishery species in Bermuda, however little was known of its biology until recently,” the spokeswoman said.
“Hear about the age, growth, reproduction, and efforts to sustain the black grouper harvest in Bermuda.”
Science in technology will be showcased on Tuesday with the latest innovations in various industries, including appliances, automotive, renewable energy, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. A demonstration on 3-D printing will also be offered for the first time at the Tech Centre.
Anyone interested in nursing careers can visit the nursing career fair exhibits on Wednesday to learn about the latest nursing trends in oncological, paediatric, seniors, palliative and emergency room nursing.
“The ever popular Live, Love, Eat culinary arts interactive instructional and sampling demonstration will round out the week’s events on Thursday,” the spokeswoman added.
All events begin at 6.30pm and are free and open to the public.
