Man charged in ninth road death

A guest worker was charged in Magistrates' Court yesterday with causing the death of Canadian Robin Hood waitress Annette Farkas by dangerous driving in September.

Donald Iain MacDonald, 28, of Hilltop Drive, Southampton, will be tried in the Supreme Court and did not have to enter a plea before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

Mr. Warner granted MacDonald bail of $10,000 with one surety. McDonald's nationality is not known but it is understood he is an employee of the Henry VIII restaurant.

Ms Farkas was mortally injured after two cycles collided around 9.20 p.m. on Monday, September 5, and died the following morning after surgery. She was the ninth of twelve road fatalities so far in 2005.

MacDonald was represented by lawyer Richard Horseman, while Crown counsel Paula Tyndale prosecuted.
