Colts grab point with late goal
Devonshire Colts 1
Boulevard 1
Ten-men Boulevard Community Club and Devonshire Colts had to settle for a share of the spoils at Police Field yesterday.
Boulevard took the lead just before the half through a Mark Smith tap-in, but then saw their victory hopes evaporate into thin air after conceding a soft own goal six minutes from time.
The visiting team were reduced to ten men in the 66th minute after Sergio Robinson, the midfielder, received a second booking for unsporting conduct.
Boulevard dominated possession and carved out plenty of clear-cut chances to kill the game off.
Those squandered opportunities came back to haunt them when Daniel Adams, the Boulevard goalkeeper, deflected Ryan Purnell’s cross into his own net to earn injury-ravaged Colts a valuable point.
Boulevard took the match to their hosts from the kick-off, and Gregory Rose, the Colts goalkeeper, had to be at his best to keep out shots from Maquel Tankard and Keemo Smith. Mark Smith, Boulevard’s powerful striker, had two efforts flash past the upright and over the bar.
Colts had chances of their own, and Zuri Darrell had a shot cleared off the line while Kyle Jones dragged a cross from fellow midfielder Eli Smith wide of the near post.
Boulevard finally got the breakthrough moments before half-time through Smith, and Smith should have doubled his side’s lead midway through the second half, but failed to connect with Dunn-Ya Taylor’s searching cross.
Jones then let Boulevard off the hook when he blasted over from a good position and it seemed as if the visiting side would hold on.
However, Colts never gave up and Purnell’s cross rescued a point for the home side.
