Sustainable Development Unit takes its message to the schools
Students are getting lessons on the power of their everyday decisions from Government’s Sustainable Development Unit (SDU).The aim is to raise awareness of the SDU and the environmental, social and economic issues affecting Bermuda as part of a programme called ‘Your Decisions, Our Future’.Tips for students include volunteering, turning out unnecessary lights, spending time with family, doing activities that don’t involve a TV or computer, and putting pocket money into savings.Sustainable Development officer Lynniece Nisbett-Garnett said: “By teaching children the SDU fundamentals that are Bermuda-specific, and encouraging engagement at the schools, we are taking steps to create a different society. Children are our future stewards, architects and decision makers.”The programme launched at Mount Saint Agnes Academy last week. Lessons will be followed at West Pembroke Primary School, Purvis Primary School, Saltus Grammar School and Warwick Academy.Interested schools should contact Ms Nisbett-Garnett on 294-9764 or Whitney Darrell on 294-9765.
