Saltus students shine

The first Commercial Risk Interschool team championships took place on Sunday at the Bermuda Squash Club with 27 teams involving 81 players participating.

"Bortoli Blasters'' of Saltus won the Grade A Division while the honours in the B Division went to "Really Cool Dudes'', also of Saltus.

Winners of Grade C were "Patton's Blasters'' of Saltus, Grade D winners were "Junior Bull Dogs'' of Saltus and Grade E winners were "Nick Hitters'' of Northlands.

The schools involved were Elliot Primary, Prospect Primary, Warwick Academy, Bermuda High, Mount Saint Agnes and Saltus senior and junior schools.

Boys and girls under 19 were given the chance to play competitive squash in a friendly atmosphere. There was no limit to the number of teams a school could register and players were placed into five different groups depending on their abilities.

Each team fielded three players per match while they had to compete in a minimum of three matches.

Graham Peuter of sponsors Commercial Risk presented the trophies and expressed his admiration with the quality of play and enthusiasm demonstrated by the players.

He also confirmed that Commercial Risk would sponsor the event on an annual basis along with an Interschools team league which will run this year from May through June.

CHESS CHS Recent chess action saw the Independents make a late bid to win the teams tournament by picking up three points to two against the Kingfishers, leaders at one stage.

If the Independents can win the outstanding game they will be within one and a half points of the leaders before the final match is played.
