Walkies
Feet and paws trekked the Railway Trail in tandem to raise funds for the SPCA, but the heat got the better of some canine participants.Around 200 people and 60 dogs took part in the charity’s 15th annual “Paws Walk” yesterday.Rosalie Powell of the SPCA said: “Dogs of every different breed and size mingled together then ventured on their trek through the Bermuda Railway Trail. They had a choice of two routes. The longer one took them from St Paul’s Church field to Cobbs Hill and back. The shorter route turned at Ord Road (S-Hill). March is not normally known for its hot weather but today some dogs actually had to turn back and shorten their walk due to the excessive heat.”Ms Powell added: “This bodes as a reminder to anyone who owns dogs to be cautious and aware that even although we have not reached peak summer heat, dogs can suffer from heat exhaustion.”She thanked all the participants for their support, and said preliminary indications show the “wonderful walkers” raised around $15,000.
