Man pays out hefty fines

Damon Jason Walker, of Shinbone Alley, pleaded guilty to making false statements, driving whilst disqualified, having no third-party insurance and driving an unlicensed vehicle.

Crown counsel Leighton Rochester said Police stopped Walker who was riding a Mitsubishi cycle on December 6, 1999 on Court Street.

When Police asked Walker to identify himself, he claimed his name was Damon Anderson.

It was discovered that the car licence had expired and he was driving without insurance. Walker was arrested and issued a ticket.

Acting Magistrate Justin Williams fined Walker $150 for making false statements, $500 for no insurance, $750 for the unlicensed vehicle, and $500 for driving whilst disqualified.

Mr. Williams also ordered that Walker be banned for another 12 months from driving motorbikes and cars. The ban is to run concurrently with his existing disqualification which end in May, next year.

VISITING COUPLE ROBBED CRM Visiting couple robbed A visiting couple were robbed of a purse and wallet last weekend while staying at a Warwick resort.

Police yesterday reported that the couple, who were staying at the Astwood Cove Resort Apartments on South Road, noticed on Saturday morning that the items were missing from their room.

After reporting the theft, the couple found the purse and wallet floating in the swimming pool outside -- minus all their cash.

In a separate incident, a Sandys Parish man reported the theft of a 19-inch colour television from his Rockywold Drive residence on Friday.

Police said the man complained the culprits forced their way into the house.

Police are investigating both thefts.

STUDENTS TO SEE LOCAL PLAY ED JAL Students to see local play More than 900 CedarBridge Academy students and faculty members will participate in a special viewing of the Bermudian play The Judgment on Friday.

The play was written by prison inmate Shaun Crockwell and performed by 13 Westgate Correctional Facility inmates.

Friday's performance of the play will be shown on video and is sponsored by the Centre For Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention (CADA).

It is designed to help people understand and realise the consequences of substance use and abuse.

A question-and-answer period, with two of the inmates involved in producing the play, will follow the viewing of the video.

NEW SUIT STOLEN FROM CAR CRM New suit stolen from car A brand new black suit was stolen from a parked car yesterday.

The owner told Police that he had left the suit in the back seat of his car and had parked his car near the Royal Artillery Association Club in St.

George's around 5 p.m.

He returned to his vehicle to find the suit missing.

Police are still investigating the incident.
