KeyTech axes 13 jobs
Thirteen jobs have been cut at telecommunications company KeyTech Ltd.
The redundancies are the result of restructuring within the group following a spate of consolidations that have brought CableVision Bermuda and CellOne squarely under the umbrella of KeyTech.
Seven of the redundancies were made at CableVision, while the other six were made at internet provider Logic.
“Following a review of the new combined company in order to continue to operate efficiently and provide our clients with cost-effective services, we have restructured our operations,” Lloyd Fray, KeyTech’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.
“This has resulted in making 13 positions redundant. Letting employees go is tremendously difficult and I would like to thank those affected for their service to the company.”
KeyTech is the parent company of Logic. In July, it secured total ownership of CableVision Bermuda. At the time, Mr Fray said: “It brings together Bermuda’s premier internet service provider and cable access providers.
“The combination of Logic and Cablevision will create a “triple play” telecommunications provider that is supported by a robust network with superior customer service that caters to both corporate and residential customers.”
Shortly afterwards CableVision chief executive officer Terry Roberson left the company.
Last month, it was announced that US firm Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN) was to take a controlling interest in KeyTech. In the deal, ATN is giving KeyTech its existing shareholding in CellOne and $42 million in cash, and in return will take a 51 per cent stake in KeyTech.
CellOne will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of KeyTech as a result of the transaction, which recently received approval from KeyTech shareholders. The transaction is now awaiting regulatory approval.
