Making a stand against same-sex marriage
The following is a letter to the Minister of Community, Culture and Sport that was copied to The Royal Gazette.
Good day minister,
It is with sadness that we in Bermuda are in a place of defending traditional marriage. Please let it be known that no law made by men can supersede the law of God. God has ordained marriage between a man and a woman, thus anything outside of that is not received by God.
Bermuda is now at a crossroads and we must move forward wisely. This indeed is a blessed Island and we must acknowledge the hand of God upon us.
We also as a nation must continue to uphold the standard that God has set before us. Thus I strongly urge you as the Government to continue to uphold traditional marriage as between a man and a woman.
As stated in The Royal Gazette on December 31, 2013, as the Government debated discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, the Minister for Community Development stated that the amendment being made concerning human rights would not lead to same-sex marriage. Two years later, we are having to defend that very same issue of same-sex marriage.
Bermuda does not have to travel the same way as the world simply because that is what is happening in the world. Bermuda should go the way that God our protector would have us to go.
If we think that there is no correlation between what we do in this country and the state of the land, let’s be reminded of the scripture, which states, “If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
There is indeed a correlation. My prayer for Bermuda is that we will be a country that stands firm in the wake of a changing world, not forsaking the God of our protection.
Choosing to legalise same-sex marriage flies in the face of God as an act that signifies that we will not honour God’s word.
Please, as a nation, let us honour God’s word and not legalise same-sex marriage.
Sincerely,
C. WAVERLEY MINORS
