A man found dead in the waters off North Shore Road, Pembroke has been identified as Dennis Eve, 55, a resident of the area.

Mr Eve was discovered facedown yesterday at 10am off the Ducking Stool Park near Black Watch Pass, and recovered by marine officers. Eyewitness Joseph Burgess, who was working at Black Watch Pass, told The Royal Gazette: “I just saw two police guys running down to the water — that’s when we saw the body floating in the water. It was a brown-skinned man.”

Pipes and drums of the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, were honouring the Black Watch Pass Well in a ceremony at the time.

Another eyewitness told this newspaper: “I was at the ceremony involving the Black Watch at Black Watch Well just across the road from where the body was found.

“A police car did drive past, but no one at the ceremony noticed anything was amiss.

“I only realised something was wrong when I crossed the road afterwards and saw a body wearing a white T-shirt floating in the water and a marine police boat.”

Police are keen to speak with anyone who saw or spoke with Mr Eve on Wednesday night or yesterday morning.
