Government calls airport meeting
Three Cabinet ministers will be on hand tonight at an information session on the Bermuda Government’s airport redevelopment plan.
Finance minister Bob Richards, transport minister Shawn Crockwell and economic development minister Grant Gibbons will be at the meeting at Penno’s Wharf, St George’s, from 6pm.
There will also be presentations from representatives of prime contractor Canadian Commercial Corporation and the construction firm Aecon.
A government spokesman described it as a chance to learn more about plans to provide “a more efficient airport terminal and create much needed jobs before and after the project’s delivery”.
Short presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and a question-and-answer period. A second public meeting is being organised in the City of Hamilton in November.
With yesterday’s announcement, the grass roots organisation the People’s Campaign issued a list of its own questions about the development plan.
These include a query of the potential cost if the Island’s government were to back out of the deal, and how much has been spent to date on the proposal.
The group asked how the initial cost estimate of $250 million had been reached, whether the redevelopment’s ultimate cost was known, and how much would be paid out in total to Aecon and CCC.
