Attemped bag snatches in City

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, after two attempted robberies were foiled on the streets of Hamilton.

At 5.10pm, a 29-year-old Pembroke woman refused to surrender her bag to a man who accosted her on Church Street near the junction with Parliament Street.

And around 5.25pm, a 41-year-old Pembroke woman suffered a finger injury when she held onto her bag as a man attempted to snatch it.

Male passers-by intervened in the second incident, on Parliament Street near the Church Street junction. In both cases, the assailant ran away empty-handed.

Police later arrested a St. George's man in connection with both incidents.

Police also reported two motorists injured in separate road accidents on Tuesday.

At 5.30pm a car and a motorcycle collided on Trimingham Road in Paget, near the Trimingham Hill junction.

The bike rider, a 48-year-old Paget man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) for treatment and later released. The driver of the car, a 28-year-old Southampton woman, was not injured but the vehicle took extensive front damage.

A 33-year-old Sandys parish man was injured when his car struck a wall at 11.15pm on Somerset Road, near the Sound View Road junction.

The driver was taken to KEMH by ambulance. His injuries are not reported to be life threatening. The passenger, a 27-year-old Sandys man, was not unhurt. The car was reported to be extensively damaged.
