Reggae stars Shaggy and Maxi Priest have been linked with October’s Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in Bermuda.

It is understood that the duo are potentially among the performers set to entertain those attending the sailing spectacle, which features all of the teams registered for the 35th America’s Cup. America’s Cup officials have remained tight-lipped over the matter so far but sources suggest the two reggae singers will perform at the event, which will be hosted by Oracle Team USA, defender of the oldest trophy in international sport.

Shaggy, whose real name is Orville Burrell, is a Grammy Award-winning reggae singer who has recorded a string of hit songs, including Boombastic, Oh Carolina, It Wasn’t Me, Angel and That Girl, which he sang with Maxi Priest.

His third album, Boombastic, sold more than a million copies and earned the singer a Grammy Award for the Best Reggae Album, while his album Hot Shot has gone six times platinum and topped the Billboard 200 and UK album charts.

Shaggy has performed at several premier sporting events in the past, including the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean and Indian Premier League and Champions League Twenty20 tournaments in South Africa and India respectively.

Maxi Priest is no stranger to Bermuda having already performed here for the public and also at the wedding of local cricket star Janeiro Tucker.

The singer, whose real name is Max Elliott, was catapulted to stardom when his self-titled 1988 album Maxi Priest established him as one of the top British reggae singers.

His hit song, Close to You, reached number one on the American Billboard charts, making the singer one of only two British reggae acts to achieve the feat. The duet Set the Night to Music, which he sang with Roberta Flack, reached the top ten in America.

Maxi Priest is perhaps best known for his hit songs such as Wild World, Some Guys Have All the Luck, Close to You and Housecall, which is a duet he sang with former dancehall king Shabba Ranks.

A relative of late Inner Circle lead singer Jacob Miller, Maxi Priest has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, making him the most successful solo act in British reggae history and has earned the respect of fellow artists from all over the world.
