Doppler radar imagery has returned to the Bermuda Weather Service website, although the system is still being tested.

The radar, based at the LF Wade International Airport, provides a moving graphic of rain and storms as they approach Bermuda.

The equipment went offline on February 19 due to technical issues, and since then staff have been working with the equipment’s German vendors to restore and update the system.

While the radar imagery has become popular with members of the public looking to avoid getting caught in the rain, airport general manager Aaron Adderly has said the loss of the system did not pose a safety risk due to the availability of other forecasting resources.

Doppler imagery was quietly returned to the website on Friday, however the site states that observations and testing are set to continue until tomorrow.
