Man admits slashing security guard’s tyre
A Paget man has admitted slashing a security guard’s car tyre after they fought at a nightclub in Hamilton.
In Magistrates’ Court this morning, Eduardo Penacho, 39, pleaded guilty to unlawfully and wilfully damaging Delmon Talbot’s car tyre on June 8 last year.
He also admitted having a machete with a 12-inch cutting edge in his possession in a public place, namely Reid Street, on the same date.
Cindy Clarke, the deputy director of public prosecutions, told the court that at about 2am, Penacho had been in a fight with Mr Talbot, the security guard at Café Cairo.
Ms Clarke said Penacho, who suffered injuries to his face, was upset that Mr Talbot was not immediately arrested and proceeded to slash a tyre on his car.
In court, Penacho said the fight had knocked out one of his teeth and that he had damaged the tyre out of anger.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report, set bail at $3,000 and adjourned the matter until October 2 for sentencing.
