Premier and Education Age: 51 Occupation: Former journalist Marital status: Single.

More than 25 years in politics. Was the youngest woman to run in a general election in Bermuda. Also the first woman to be appointed to the Senate.

Worked for the Bermuda Recorder, was assistant editor at Fame magazine and the Bermuda Times. An artist and former dance teacher. Won numerous achievement awards.

YES... The first leader to take her party to victory and said to have an eye for detail. Doggedly determined and experienced politician and reckoned to have done a good job as PLP Education spokeswoman.

BUT... Not particularly a "people person'' and prefers set piece Press conferences to off-the-cuff interviews -- but capable of great charm on a one-to-one basis. Nonetheless, a reputation for frostiness and notoriously "unavailable for comment''. While Opposition leader was prone to avoid questioning on some subjects by saying she didn't know anything about it -- apparently ignoring the fact she really should.

Eugene Cox Finance Age: 70 Occupation: retired Belco senior vice president Marital Status: Married, three children.

Experienced businessman. Ex-chairman of the PLP and former Senator. Bermuda's first Opposition Whip. Was voted Deputy Leader of the PLP in 1996.

YES... Has done several stints with the Finance portfolio. Affable, gentlemanly charming elder statesman, well-liked by colleagues and the public.

BUT... Not a Grant Gibbons. Steered well away from hot subjects like the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development's crackdown on offshore jurisdictions -- a serious threat to Bermuda -- for months and is getting on in years for the number two job in Government. May be a caretaker appointment pending a reshuffle next year.

David Allen Tourism Age: 55 Occupation: journalist Marital Status: Single Former Senator. Served as Opposition Leader in the Senate between 1985 and 1989. Also held Shadow Tourism, Finance, Housing and Works, Legislature and Labour and Home Affairs portfolios. Elected to House of Assembly for first time in 1989.

YES... Good background for the Tourism Ministry and valuable as the only white face on the Government benches as the party stresses an agenda for all of Bermuda.

BUT... Seen as a bit pompous and long-winded on the floor of the House and more than a little fond of using anonymous sources met here and there to back up his arguments.

Nelson Bascome Health and Family Services Age: 43 Occupation: Community health organisation administrator Marital Status: Married, two children.

One of the first wave of "new'' MPs elected in the wake of the PLP's 1985 election debacle, has represented Pembroke East as an MP since 1989. Last Shadow Ministry was Youth and Sport, but held the Health and Social Services portfolio earlier. Director and teacher at Pembroke Community Club. Coaches Devonshire Colts mini-soccer team.

YES... Well up on major health issues. Likeable and with a proven track record in the caring professions, especially hard-working where the young are concerned. Not seen as an intellectual but intelligent, quick and streetwise.

One of the stars of the future.

BUT... Perhaps a bit of a lightweight on the floor of the House and maybe a little too good-natured for putting the boot in. Relatively untried and in charge of a large and important Ministry -- especially with housing, a major election campaign issue, now under him.

Ewart Brown Transport Age: 52 Occupation: Physician Marital Status: Divorced, three children.

Shadow Minister of Human Affairs. US educated and a US citizen and resident for many years. Medical Director of Bermuda Healthcare Services.

YES... Clever and articulate. Sharp-dressing archetypal politician -- although with a distinct American flavour. Well-connected in US.

BUT... Perhaps a bit too radical for a party heading towards the middle ground. Known to bear grudges -- especially against the Bermudian medical establishment -- from his early years as a doctor, although appears to be softening with age. Has not shown much previous interest in his new portfolio.

Lois Browne Evans Legislative Affairs Age: 71 Occupation: Barrister Marital Status: Married, two children YES.... The grand dame of Bermuda politics, she is the longest-serving MP in Parliament. A woman for firsts -- first woman lawyer in Bermuda, first black woman MP on the Island and first black woman Opposition leader in the Commonwealth. A valuable resource, particularly on Constitutional/legal matters, as well as an important symbol and link to the past in a party which changed to win.

BUT.... Even on the day the party took power, she signalled her willingness to retire. Looked tired in the last session of Parliament. May well not be in the House for very much longer.

Paula Cox Home Affairs and Public Safety Age: 30s Occupation: Lawyer Marital Status: Single Top lawyer at the Bank of Bermuda. Shadow Minister of Community Affairs and ex-PLP public relations officer.

YES... Good political pedigree -- daughter of Eugene Cox. Good academic and business record and clearly passionate in her commitment. One of the stars of the future.

BUT... Perhaps a little shy on the floor of the House of Assembly, with an off-putting tendency to hector when in full flood. Newish MP with little Shadow Ministry experience now placed in a large and traditionally controversial Ministry.

Arthur Hodgson Environment Age: 58 Occupation: Former Magistrate Marital Status: Married, three children.

PLP MP for Hamilton West 1980-83. Former Senator. Former partner at Richards, Francis & Francis. A teacher for many years. First black Bermudian Rhodes Scholar, studying at the University of Oxford.

YES... Goodall round experience -- academically, professionally and in life, as well. Intelligent, hard-working and legal training a traditional proving ground for politicians.

BUT... Been out of the political arena for 15 years. Some say he lacks a sense of humour. Said to be anti-National Trust -- not ideal for Environment Ministry.

Dennis Lister Youth and Sport Age: 40 Occupation: Insurance executive Marital Status: Married, three children.

Was Shadow Transport Minister. Elected to House of Assembly in 1989. One of the youngest PLP representatives. US educated.

YES... Pleasant personality and boating and water sports enthusiast -- potential big earners for the Island's tourism industry. Hard-working with a good business background. Family pedigree in the PLP.

BUT... Was not outstanding as Transport spokesman and has a rather monotone delivery. Generally not seen as a party high-flyer.

Terry Lister Development, Opportunity and Government Services Age: 44 Occupation: Chartered accountant Marital Status: Married, four children.

Served in the Senate. Former Opposition spokesman on Finance, Tourism, Works & Engineering and Management and Technology. Has served as a Director of Bermuda Aviation Services; V-P of the council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda. Director of Belco. Four children. Recently retired as a partner at Big Five accounting firm Deloitte & Touche.

YES... Successful black man in business and with a sound grasp of economics -- ideal Finance Minister material on paper. Likeable and with a sense of humour, not a trait traditionally associated with accountants.

BUT... Seen by business community as having wasted his opportunity in the Senate to display his grasp of the Island's economy. Untried in the House of Assembly and holding a Ministry on which many of the PLP's promises will depend.

Alex Scott Works and Engineering Age: 58 Occupation: Public relations agency owner Marital Status: Married, two children.

Political veteran, although not long in the House. Former Shadow Minister of Labour and Home Affairs. Appointed to Senate in 1985. Became Opposition Leader in the Senate in 1989. Became MP in 1993.

YES... Bulldog aggression in the House and has been an effective opponent on some issues. Dogged defender of Bermudian rights and an undeniably hard worker.

BUT... Seen as rabidly anti-expatriate by some and a bit of a loose cannon on occasion. Has embarrassed his party more than once and plays a bit fast and loose with the facts when it suits him.

Milton Scott Government Leader in the Senate Age: 43 Occupation: Union leader Marital Status: Married, two children.

Former Senate Opposition Leader. General Secretary of the Bermuda Union of Teachers. Former PLP Secretary General. Co-chairman of the 1993 General Election team.

YES... Good, solid background in the party machine, although never actually elected to office. Hard-working and well up on education issues.

BUT... Fought the hopeless cause of Paget East in Monday's General Election. Bit dull and humourless in his delivery. Question marks over why he's never been given a safe seat to fight -- although he could be a leading candidate to fight a by-election in a PLP safe seat in the event one of the stalwarts decides to retire after securing victory at last.

Who's who in Cabinet Telecommunications Age: 42 Occupation: Financial consultant Marital Status: Single, adopted daughter.

Former Shadow Minister of Health and Social Services. Previously worked for the Bank of Butterfield in international marketing. Since then she has owned a small business and was a real estate agent. Legal guardian of a daughter.

YES... Fiery temperament and impassioned delivery. She has an impressive international education, including the Sorbonne in Paris. Intelligent and committed.

BUT... Can fly off the handle a bit and is prone to play the race card when debates in the House turn nasty. Famed for occasionally calling for the paintings of former Speakers of the House of Assembly to be torn down. Will go far -- if she wants to.
