Young Observer gave the Youth Library summer campers a tour of The Royal Gazette on Tuesday.

The students wished to share some great reads for their peers and even at their young age had some suggestions for our leaders to focus on.

Marla Smith, Youth Services librarian at The National Youth Library told us: “We are half way through this year’s summer reading programme ‘Read to the Rhythm’. We have danced, cooked, studied art and have been on a scavenger hunt. We have travelled to Brazil, Japan, Portugal and Guyana. There are still story time, craft times, movie days, karaoke fun.” Also from August 10-14, 2015, there will be a magic and balloon twisting workshop at the library.”

Which book and/or author would you recommend to your peers?

Jaizae Smith, age 11, recommended Magic Tree House #61. Zijae Jones suggested Lemony Snicket. Adesina Butterfield, age 9, recommended Dork Diaries by Rachel Russell.

Joshua Nowell recommended Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce.

Esme Frith, age 9, suggested Demon Dentist by David Walliams. Hallam Frith recommended David Walliams’s Rat Burger. Olivia Heffernan, age 10, recommended Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton. When a Dragon Moves in written by Jodi Moore was recommended by Leziyae Jones. Spot goes to the beach! by Eric Hill was recommended for readers by Remy Donawa, age 7.

If you were Premier for the day, what areas of our community would focus on?

“I think all houses should have solar panels and we should have electric cars in Bermuda.” Esme Frith, age 9

“I would make people walk or bike to the places they want to go to.” Olivia Heffernan, age 10.

“Make the world safer.” Jevon Farmer, age 8.

“I would focus on the dump.” Leziyae Jones, age 7
