Leverock claims hat-trick
Kamau Leverock claimed a hat-trick as Newport Cricket Club 1st XI beat St Fagans Cricket Club 1st XI by 22 runs in a Premier Division One match on Saturday at St Fagans CC.
St Fagans won the toss and sent Newport in to bat, with Leverock, opening the batting. The Bermuda all-rounder made 13 in an opening stand of 31 with Matt Norris who went on to score 70 from 124 balls as Newport were restricted to 198 for eight in 50 overs.
Newport then bowled St Fagans out for 176 in 48.5 overs as Leverock, sharing the new ball, came back for his second spell and took three wickets in successive deliveries, two bowled and another leg before, to seal the win and finish with figures of four for 29 from 9.5 overs.
n Marine & Ports have paid the price for too many forfeited games and have been booted out of the Evening Cricket League’s Second Division.
M&P were bottom of the table at the halfway stage of the season with just two points.
Bailey’s Bay and Blue Fever have been awarded two points apiece for M&P’s now-cancelled final two matches, on August 3 and 10.
The Bermuda Under-18 led the table at the halfway stage, four points clear of Bay.
The Associates headed the Premier Division standings at the halfway point, closely followed by Belmont, last season’s league and cup champions.
