Champion Dillas through to men’s final; Symonds and Down to contest women’s title

Jarryd Dillas will go in search of a record fourth straight Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championship title today when he meets number three seed Chris Brough in the 36-hole final at Mid Ocean.Dillas, the three time defending champion, saw off two opponents in yesterday’s quarter-final and semi-final in sunny, cold and windy conditions which even produced a scattering of hail as the golfers made their way around the course. Dillas defeated Scott Barnett one-up in his morning match to set up a semi-final tie with Nicholas Mansell who stopped Cory DeSilva five and four in his match.The defending champion was again given a close match as Mansell kept it close before eventually going down two up on the final hole. In the other semi-final, Brough advanced after beating Spencer Wideman three and two, having earlier defeated Rod Forrest four and three.In the Ladies Championship final today, Ann Symonds will meet Linda Down. Symonds, the number four seed, beat Gladys Chambaz three and two in the semi-final yesterday while things looked up for Linda Down as she defeated Ebonie Burgess one up in another close semi-final.Symonds stopped Sandra Hutchings three and two in the quarter-finals; Chambaz shocked last year’s beaten finalist Kathrin Burnie one up; Down defeated Tracy Burgess five and four and Ebonie Burgess got by Wendy Salvia six and four.The men’s consolation semi-final saw Andrew Osbourne defeat Craig Christensen one up and Julian Brassington beat Gary Brangman three and two. Earlier in the men’s consolation quarter-finals Osborne defeated Richard Knight seven and five; Christensen stopped Geoff Piggott five and three; Brassington got by Luis Gerardo five and four and Brangman comfortably beat Walter Jackson seven and six.
