James wins match play showdown

Fecchio Cup, Chaka DeSilva was beaten by David's younger brother Aaron in yesterday's Junior Match Play Tournament at Riddell's Bay.

Aaron, 14, stopped 17-year-old Chaka three-and-two in one of four championship flight matches and will now meet Ryan Mello in today's semi-final starting at noon. Mello beat Colin Brown, also three-and-two.

Charles Markey, medallist in the qualifying round with 72, will take on Justin Barritt in today's other championship semi-final.

Markey, who teamed up with Ken O'Neil to win the Col. Clark senior-junior Tournament at Mid Ocean last weekend, continued his good form with a three-and-one win over Chris Smith. Barritt won by the biggest margin, stopping Mark Robinson five-and-four.

Today's semi-final winners will meet in a 36-hole championship final tomorrow at 7.30 a.m.

In first flight action yesterday, Fraser Hunt beat Davin Smith nine-and-eight, 13-year-old Steven Roy beat his older brother Scott four-and-two, Sean Outerbridge defated David Smith three-and-two and Mark Durrant got by Jennifer Spurling six-and-four. Hunt will meet Roy and Outerbridge will take on Durrant.

The only match to go to extra holes was the second flight encounter between Ryan Davidge and Steven McGuinness which Davidge won on the 20th hole.

Laura Robinson squeezed by Sean Dunkley one-up while Eric West beat Jermaine Simons six-and-four and David Boyce defeated Anthony Smith three-and-two. In the semi-finals West plays Davidge and Boyce clashes with Robinson.

In the 12-and-under age group, Andrew Boyce, Jarryd Dillas, Tim Burland and Scott Booth were the winners over Sergio Edness, Doug Markey, Thomas Edwards and Jermaine Overbey.
