Shadow Public Safety Minister Walter Roban has urged the public to help police by providing information about a recent spate of firearm incidents.

The call comes after shots were fired in Ingham’s Vale and St Monica’s Road as well as an armed robbery at Butterfield Bank in St George’s.

“The Progressive Labour Party was saddened again to hear the evidence of shots fired in Pembroke once again in the area of Ingham’s Vale,’ said Mr Roban.

“This is in succession to a number of violent incidents which include a bank robbery and shots fired in the St. Monica’s Road area already reported over the past two weeks.

“We repeat our call on the public to support and cooperate with the Police and provide any information and assistance that is necessary to apprehend who is responsible for these incidents.”

Mr Roban also urged drivers to slow down and take more care on the Island’s roads.

He said: “As we begin another beautiful summer period in Bermuda we all have to play a part in guaranteeing safety, security and peace in our island for all to benefit.

“We must heed the call of the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) and the Road Safety Council for us to slow down and to abide by the rules of the road.

“The recent sad passing of octogenarian Leon Smith following injuries from a road accident is just one more death and accident we should not have. Deaths and accidents on our roads are looking more like an epidemic.

“This is the reason we stood earlier this year with the government and authorities to plead for more responsible use of the roads by everyone.

“The preservation of life and ensuring road safety as we move throughout this island is the responsibility of everyone who lives here and loves this island. The PLP calls on everyone to make a commitment to do their part with combating all violence and unsafe use of our roads.”
