Last night a 28-year-old Sandys man was in custody helping Police with their inquiries, as victim Miss Lisa Roberts recovered from her ordeal.

According to Police, all of the money and the handgun believed to have been used in the robbery were recovered within hours.

The bandit reportedly jumped into Miss Roberts' car as she left The Bank of Bermuda's Somerset branch at approximately 11 a.m. She had just collected a payroll of over $10,000 in cash for her employer, SKB Coatings Limited of Southampton.

Miss Roberts was then forced at gunpoint to drive to Long Bay Lane, where the thief escaped with the money.

West End Police were able to move swiftly on the case following Miss Roberts' description of the robber and the cooperation of several members of the public.

In an interview last night, Police Commissioner Lennie Edwards expressed concern at the growing number of armed robberies taking place in Bermuda, and said that many of the perpetrators wanted to "make their big killing while they can''.

Yesterday's incident came just two days after Belvin's Grocery Store manager, Mr. William Pearman, was viciously beaten and robbed of around $2,000 by two hooded men.

Police detectives are continuing their investigation into that incident.
