Morgan Heritage to take Bermuda by storm!
Morgan Heritage’s Cup Match SummerSplash 2015 will be a homecoming of sorts.
The top reggae act describe Bermuda as their “home away from home” having performed here twice already.
“Bermuda is a very quiet and peaceful get-away Island, and the water just does it for me,” Gramps Morgan told The Royal Gazette.
“We all love our home away from home.”
Morgan Heritage will showcase their musical talents alongside Barrington Levy during the July 25 One Love One Life concert at Par-la-Ville car park.
The event will kick-start the Cup Match Summer Splash 2015 festivities.
“We look to enjoy an uplifting, fun and family atmosphere,” Mr Morgan added.
“Bring the family and get to listen to some of the classic songs of Morgan Heritage as well as our new album, Strictly Roots. If you don’t have a copy, please pick it up.”
Strictly Roots is the group’s tenth album and features a wide range of collaboration and travels through a multitude of reggae eras and styles.
“We are simply showing the world that reggae music is no longer coming from just its birthplace Jamaica, but it has now taken the world by storm,” Mr Morgan said.
“Reggae artists are now rising up from all over the world, even Bermuda.”
Morgan Heritage has recently been on hiatus, with group members channelling their musical talents and energy into solo projects.
“For five years we have been working on solo projects and we had made that decision as a family,” Mr Morgan said. “By doing these solo projects it made each individual member of the band much stronger by standing on their own writing songs by themselves, producing songs, doing their own interviews, shows and tours. So now the load is much lighter and each member is stronger which makes the band stronger.”
The last time Morgan Heritage performed in Bermuda, they drew crowds in excess of 2,000.
“For me, one of my biggest [memories] is meeting James Ingram at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess while we were there for a concert,” he said. “Also, the time we performed with Sizzla and Luciano many years ago.”
The global sensation Major Lazer will also travel to Bermuda for Cup Match Summer Splash 2015. They’ll perform July 29 at Par-la-Ville car park.
Major Lazer is made up of Diplo, the Grammy-nominated DJ and producer, and fellow DJ-producers Jillionaire, of Trinidad, and Walshy Fire, of Jamaica. Also performing at the concert will be DJ Skratch Bastid and Tarantula, from Poison Dart. Master of ceremonies for both events is Uzimon. Ticket packages are available online at www.bdatix.bm.
