Firm’s role in award-winning financing deals
Law firm Conyers Dill & Pearman played a role in three air financing deals that have won awards from Airfinance Journal.
The Bermuda firm represented participants in the transactions, giving law and legal advice. The deals were hailed at Airfinance Journal’s Deals of the Year 2014 awards dinner.
The overall deal of the year was AerCap Holdings’ $3 billion acquisition of International Lease Finance Corporation from AIG. Conyers provided Bermuda and Cayman legal advice to AerCap in connection with the deal.
And Conyers gave Bermuda law advice to Goldman Sachs in connection with Aldus Aviation’s $540 million asset-backed secured term loans for the purchase of 30 Embraer aircraft, which was declared the capital markets deal of the year by UK-based Airfinance Journal.
The law firm provided Bermuda law advice to Castlelake in connection with a $515.6 million aircraft securitisation. The money raised was used to buy 79 aircraft to be leased out. That transaction was the winner of Airfinance Journal’s innovative deal of the year award.
Julie McLean, a director in Conyers’ Bermuda office and global head of the its aviation finance team, said: “We are delighted that our clients are being recognised by these awards.
“Having acted on these transactions, is further testament to the strengths of Conyers’ global aviation team and their expertise in working on cross-border matters with many of the world’s leading airlines and leasing companies.”
Jason Piney, a director in the corporate department in the Bermuda office of Conyers Dill & Pearman, was involved in the deals. He said: “These are all aircraft leasing companies who are setting up new leasing operating companies.
“They are raising new financing and are choosing to do it through Bermuda and it demonstrates that for big complex finance deals, Bermuda is seen as the jurisdiction of choice.”
