Hemp lands Australia coaching role
David Hemp is set to be named as the new head coach of Cricket Victoria’s women’s team.
Hemp, who lives in Melbourne, will replace Barry Neivandt, whose two-year contract was not renewed at the end of last season, in leading VicSpirit.
The Bermuda batsman will be unveiled as the new man in charge of the state’s elite women tomorrow, and will be tasked with turning around a side that have not won anything for the past three seasons.
VicSpirit were crunched in the final of last season’s Twenty20 competition, by NSW, and were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Women’s National Cricket League.
With the women’s Twenty20 competition to change from state-based to city-based teams next season, the same eight that feature in the men’s Big Bash League, it is expected Hemp will also lead either the Melbourne Stars or Melbourne Renegades, in addition to the VicSpirit.
