Youngster Smith promoted to UK club first team
Young Bermuda cricketer Keishun Smith has been selected to play for the first team of Knowle and Dorridge in Warwickshire League.Playing alongside him today will be Bermuda’s national team player David Hemp.Smith is currently ranked ninth in the race for the club’s Player of the Year award.He’s finishing his last year at Alderbrook High School in Solihull, Warwickshire and will be attending Arden Sixth Form in September.BCB President Lloyd Fray said: "As a former Under-15 National Academy team player, the BCB is extremely pleased to hear that Keishun is doing so well in the UK. We look forward to seeing how he progresses this season both academically and from a cricketing standpoint."* Bailey’s Bay player Rodney Trott has been chosen as the first recipient of BCB’s Chivas Regal Cricket Sportsman Award — introduced this year.Explaining their selection the BCB said: “In the match between Bailey's Bay and Devonshire Recreation Club, Rodney Trott constantly assisted Devonshire Rec's captain with various aspects of the playing conditions at a time when he could have stayed silent and allowed Rec to be penalised (fielders in the restricting area). He also properly managed his players and kept them well within the Spirit of the Game.”Fray commented: "I am proud of our national team vice-captain Rodney Trott for his outstanding display of sportsmanship and chivalry during his match against Devonshire Recreation Club. The BCB executive are constantly encouraging the national team players to take their high performance coaching lessons and international experiences and apply them in domestic cricket. Rodney has exemplified these traits in this match and has set a great example to both our younger and more senior players."
