A white Christmas in the United States is expected to cause mail delays here in Bermuda.

The Bermuda Post Office said yesterday that heavy snow throughout the US has caused major problems for the United States Postal Service, which in turn will delay many packages on their way to the Island.

Postmaster General George Outerbridge said: "The Post Office team is working diligently to deliver any mail we receive, but with the winter storm, there will be some packages that will not arrive in Bermuda in time to be delivered for Christmas."

Christmas is typically the busiest time for the Postal Service, with the service being bombarded with four to five times more parcels than normal.
