HM11, was returned to its sender in Scotland marked "insufficient address''.

William McCracken -- who sent the letter from Fife, Scotland -- told The Royal Gazette : "The address on it was clear so I don't know why it was not delivered.'' Postmaster General Clevelyn Crichlow said the address was for the Bermuda Monetary Authority's (BMA) offices.

He said the regular postman would have recognised it and put it in the BMA's post box -- but he was off duty and his substitute did not know this was the case.

He did not know where to direct the letter as Bermuda Monetary Authority was not marked on it so it was returned to the sender as it was assumed to be an error.

Mr. Crichlow said people sending correspondence to individuals working in large companies should put "care of'' the appropriate company on the letter as part of the address.
