Teddy bears looking for travelling companions
Two globe-trotting teddy bears are in need of some assistance.
The teddy bears have been on a journey since December 5 and have been held over at the Bermuda Post Office for more than a month.
Two second grade students, James Lam and Katie Poe, from Fort Daniel Elementary School in Dacula, Georgia, sent them out to travel the world.
They sent the bears with a note attached saying, "Please carry my bear with you''.
Simone Barton, a Bermuda resident, is appealing to fellow Bermudians who have upcoming travel plans to help her take the teddy bears with them to any exotic location they happen to be visiting.
"This is a study in geography,'' she said. "They want to see just how far these teddy bears can travel. It's a cute idea.
"They have already been to the Cayman Islands and London.'' But she claimed that the travelling pair went to London by mistake "because of the Bermuda Postal situation which accidentally sent all our mail to London''.
"I've just now gotten them myself on January 12,'' Ms Barton said.
"I am looking for someone to take the bears somewhere nice.
"The children must get their bears back by May and I need help from the general public to get them there.'' When contacted Postmaster General Clevelyn Crichlow said: "I know nothing about it. It's absolutely ridiculous for me to say anything about it. If she (Simone Barton) wants to discuss something about this, she can call me.'' The note, accompanying the bears, stated: "Hello! My name is Lam/Pinkey. I am a traveling bear. I belong to James Lam/Katey Poe. They are sending me on a trip to gather as much information about the places I visit as possible. If you take me somewhere special, please write in my journal and tell about it so that my owner can read about the exciting places I have been. My owner wants to know about you. If you see interesting post cards, menus, or brochures from the area I visit, put them in the folder in the back of my journal. I would love a souvenir or a small picture of you and me doing something fun. My only form of transportation is from person to person, so when I have seen your area, or traveled with you, please pass me along to someone else who is taking an exciting trip. Hopefully I will travel a lot with many different people. If I am in your hands in May, please send me back to Fort Daniel. My owner will share my journal with his/her class. The last day of school is May 26, so I would like to be home before that. My owner would really like to see me again!. Thanks for taking care of me.'' "Travellers are also asked to leave a souvenir in a little manila envelope provided for the purpose,'' Ms Barton said. "They can also write a little note telling the child where the bear has been.
"I plan to take the bears around to my children's school and have their class write them a note. I also intend to include some Bermuda sand and some newspaper clippings as souvenirs.
"They're just piggybacking from traveller to traveller.
"Around May, the traveller who has the bears at that time is responsible for returning the bears back to their owners.
"I really need Bermuda to help me to send them on their way.
"They can call me at 295-9309 and I will deliver the bears to them, even to the airport if need be.''
