Move to speed up mail delivery
Efforts are being made to speed up mail delivery on the Island following problems caused by the re-location of the mail sorting operation from Hamilton to the Bermuda Mail Processing Centre at the Airport.
The Post Office is working to ensure that all mail is delivered within four working days, according to Postmaster General George Outerbridge.
He has made the pledge in response to complaints from Island businesses and the public regarding delays in deliveries, and said that in an effort to modernise the Bermuda Post Office there had been ?teething problems? at the new centralised processing centre at the Airport.
?We are working to ensure a consistent delivery standard of four working days for all mail delivered in Bermuda,? he said.
Mr. Outerbridge went on to state that the new centre would provide greater efficiency and cost reduction coupled with increased accountability and efforts were being made to resolve problems on several fronts such as overtime and flexible work hours.
He said the Post Office would be hiring a new member of staff to focus on and streamline the current delivery system.
Praising staff for their continued work to meet new standards of productivity, he also said the general belief that mail posted in sub-post offices to be delivered locally from that office is first being directed to the Airport sorting centre was incorrect.
Only mail that is going on to other sub-post offices is sent on to the processing centre.
