Sandys man cut with ‘bladed article’
A Sandys man suffered a cut to his neck in an altercation in the West End, according to Police.
A Police spokesman said that at about 3.20am on Saturday officers responded to a report of an injured man at Somerset Cricket Club.
“Details remain limited at this time, however it appears that a 22-year-old Sandys man sustained a cut to his neck by an unknown person brandishing a bladed article,” the spokesman said.
“The male was initially transported to Port Royal Fire Station for medical attention before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further medical assessment. His injury was deemed to be superficial and not life-threatening.”
Dennis Lister, the Member of Parliament for the area, reacted to the news this morning, saying: “As a sporting, cultural and historical centre of the Sandys community, any crime, act of violence or disorder at the Somerset Cricket Club strikes at the heart of our community.
“We stand with the Somerset Cricket Club family as they continue to provide tremendous benefit to Sandys and we condemn this act of violence,”
Walter Roban, the Shadow Minister for Public Safety, said: “We have noted the strong response made by the Somerset Cricket Club in recent months to reach out to the youth and find solutions to make the Sandys community safer. Their programmes and activities in these areas must continue and be supported.
“The Progressive Labour Party encourages the community to stand up, speak out and assist the Bermuda Police Service in catching the perpetrator.”
Police have urged witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to contact officers at 295-0011 or call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.
