Day and night Relay for Life fundraiser generates $300,142

Reaping the rewards: Event organisers unveil to the crowd that $300,142 was raised in the Island’s first 24-hour Relay for Life, to help celebrate, remember and fight back against cancer, at the National Sport Centre’s North Field
Bermuda’s first Relay for Life, a 24-hour charity drive, brought in $300,142 toward the fight against cancer.
Participants started their circuits on Friday night at the National Sports Centre’s North Field perimeter track, and kept going until 6pm on Saturday.
Organised by the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, the relay was the first local version of an event that has grown into the world’s biggest fundraiser for cancer.
It was also an occasion for the community to pull together in support, and recognition of life as well as loss.
To applause, the final figure was held up in a scorecard style by organisers.
