Athene seals $55m SCOR deal
Bermuda-based Athene Holding Ltd has concluded the acquisition of SCOR SE’s US fixed-annuity subsidiary, Investors Insurance Corp, for $55 million, it has been announced.SCOR, a Paris-based reinsurer, said in February that it would sell the Jacksonville, Florida-based subsidiary to Athene, also a reinsurer. It said the move was part of its strategy to focus its life reinsurance activities around biometric risks - or risks directly connected with the life of the insured person.Meanwhile, Liberty Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Athene Holding, has announced the appointment of insurance industry veteran Rod Mims to the post of national sales manager. Mr Mims will be based in Wilmington, Delaware and will head up sales and business development for Athene’s expanding retail annuity business.He brings to the company more than 20 years of insurance and investment experience in a number of roles ranging from personal production and wholesaling to sales management at the division and national levels. Prior to joining Liberty, Mr Mims was national sales manager for Genworth Financial, with responsibility for its bank, warehouse and independent broker-dealer channels.“Rod is a consummate sales leader who combines a deep knowledge of retirement income products and distribution with hands-on experience building a high-performing national sales organisation,” said Chris Grady, head of retail for Athene.
